Hello everyone!
I write to you today to tell you about a fun group in Rochester you may not know about.
If you've ever parked your car somewhere and came back to a rubber duck on the hood, roof, or side mirror, you were successfully "ducked" by @ducking_around_5 on Instagram!
The first time I was "ducked" was back last Spring. I saw a rubber duck on my car and figured it had come from the owners of the car parked next to me, a red sedan with a dashboard covered in a variety of rubber ducks! At the time I had no way of figuring out who was behind this scheme, so I hoped I would run into them again one day... and that day was last week.
These lovely people gifted me a purple witch duck for the upcoming spooky season, and I left a note on their car (again, parked very close to mine) so that we could finally communicate. This is how I found their Instagram! The best part? I learned that I was their first ever "victim" when they ducked me last Spring, and they've been doing it to other cool cars ever since.
I'm honored to know that my wildly-decorated car inspired these people to start leaving rubber duck gifts on other cars, "one quack at a time" as they describe it. This occurrence is one of the many little things about the city's community that I adore. Amidst the chaos that comes with living in an area like this, there are people who go out of their way to spread joy in the most creative and original ways.
If you ever return to your car to see a rubber duck, you now know what this means. You've been ducked, and you can probably find a photo of the act on their Instagram page (license plate cropped out.)
Until next time...
This is Devan, your local Rochester enthusiast, logging off.
